Brenner woke as a shaft of sunlight penetrated the cheap drapes like they were mere tissue paper. He sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed. Next to him, Cherry grunted and rolled over, pushing her face into the pillow to prevent any of the light reaching her eyes.

Brenner went to the bathroom and turned on the shower, not bothering with the hot, he merely turned the cold up full and got in. The water pressure was better than he expected and minutes later he was standing back in the room, the rented towel around his waist.

Cherry sat up, pulled the sheet to her neck, and looked at him, her eyes wide. ‘I didn’t get a good look last night,’ she said. ‘Man, you are one well-built SOB. You got muscles in places where most men I seen don’t even have places.’

‘Just a natural mesomorph I suppose,’ said Brenner.

Cherry frowned. ‘What you saying? You gay?’

‘You really have to ask that question after last night?’

Cherry blushed. ‘I suppose not. What you mean you a metamof?’

‘Mesomorph,’ corrected Brenner. ‘It doesn’t matter. You wanna shower?’

Cherry shook her head. ‘No, I’ll just get dressed and head on home. Should make an effort to get there before Bernie.’

Brenner raised an eyebrow. ‘You live with Bernie?’

‘Sure,’ confirmed Cherry. ‘He’s okay. Got his own big rig. Earns well, hardly ever at home. He don’t got no airs and graces. Things are fine.’ She laughed. ‘Look, he ain’t no mesomorph but he’ll do.’

Brenner chuckled. ‘Well you won’t need to rush. I reckon he’ll be laid up for a couple more days at least.’

‘Really?’

Brenner nodded. ‘I hit him pretty hard, people usually don’t recover for a few days when I do that.’

‘Well in that case,’ said Cherry as she let the sheet slide down, revealing a spectacular upper body. ‘Why don’t we take advantage of the time available?’

Brenner smiled. ‘Now that is a great idea.’
